Brogborough '10' 21st May 2025

Another warm and sunny day, leading to a sunny evening. Unfortunately, another evening '10' on the Brogborough course with a headwind out to the turn! On the bright side, I'd made a better front wheel choice than a fortnight ago, plus the wind wasn't as strong as on that occasion. I remained a little cautious on the starting descent, and stayed on the base bars till just before reaching the under pass. I could see Jim waiting to photograph riders! Here's a link to Jim Eastment's gallery - I'm grateful to Jim for photos.

Settling in after the starting descent

I found I could comfortably stay on the aero extensions into the headwind, except where negotiating the roundabouts on the course, and tried to focus on getting the power out - see the data graphic later in this post. Once round the turn, I'd expected to see my speed increase, but looking at the chart, it doesn't seem like a major lift.

I had no real issues with traffic, except for a driver who entered the Marston RAB as I came through on the return. I didn't think we were that close, but he sounded his horn anyway. I kept on grinding away...

Hanging in there near the finish

I finished with 23:04 - somewhat disappointing given that my normalised power for this event was my best yet for this season. It was enough for third place and first place (just) on veteran standard. Full results at the NBRC website.

Here are the data for the ride (click the image to enlarge). It looks like I maintained a pretty even power, except where negotiating roundabouts and the turn. It also looks like I was a bit on the rivet by the end of the time trial.

And finally, the wind direction chart. this wasn't too difficult to deal with, and not particularly gusty.
